Appalachian Hosts North Carolina Dance Alliance Annual Event

Appalachian State University's Department of Theatre and Dance, College of Fine and Applied Arts, and the Office of Arts & Cultural Programs will host the 2007 North Carolina Dance Alliance Annual Event: Weaving Communities Through Dance, Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 8-10.

This gathering of the statewide dance community will include classes and events in a variety of dance and dance-related forms presented by North Carolina artists, administrators, educators and advocates. It also will include a contra dance sponsored by Boone Country Dancers on Thursday, November 8, 2007, a headline concert featuring the renowned Sean Curran Dance Company on Friday, November 9, 2007 in Farthing Auditorium, and the NCDA Showcase Concert and Annual Award presentation on Saturday, November 10, 2007, in Valborg Theatre.

Classes and events will include: African dance, Ballet, belly dance, capoeira, choreography, collaborative processes, contact improvisation, contra dance, dance photography exhibit, expressive arts therapy, gyrokinesis, hip-hop, Indian classical dance, jazz, Latin American dance, modern, mountain music and dance, NCDF panel discussion, Pilates, swing dance, tap and yoga.

North Carolina Dance Alliance's mission is to advance the art form of dance. As the statewide service organization for dance, NCDA's membership includes professional dance companies, artists, presenters, educators, students, institutions, individuals and other organizations statewide. NCDA is grounded in the conviction that the concerns and aspirations of the dance community can be addressed effectively through active, cooperative endeavors. NCDA develops programs and services that address the changing needs of the state's dance community.
