Since its inception in San Francisco in 1996, the Cypress String Quartet has performed to critical acclaim - and brought audiences to their feet - at prominent venues worldwide. The Cypress has also developed a reputation for finding new ways to ignite interest in chamber music, developing innovative programs such as their critically-acclaimed "Inspired by America". This performance is a dramatic, interdisciplinary blend of music, original film and spoken word. The program, which is a collaboration of the Cypress, best-selling author Jacob Needleman and Emmy Award-winning film producer Michael Schwarz, will be backed up with world-class stage and sound technicians, including the Associate Music Producer for The Lord of the Rings.

Singled out by Chamber Music Magazine as the "generation X ensemble to watch," the Cypress String Quartet is reaching out in new ways to ignite interest in chamber music. The San Francisco-based quartet has brought audiences to their feet for over a decade with virtuoso performances at major concert venues around the world, including the Kennedy Center and the Library of Congress.

Quartet members Cecily Ward and Tom Stone (violin), Ethan Filner (viola) and Jennifer Kloetzel (cello) combine technical precision with imaginative programming to create a truly unforgettable experience with this exciting performance.

While at Appalachian, members of the Cypress String Quartet will conduct residency activities with students of the Hayes School of Music. Their performance and residency activities are presented in partnership with Appalachian's Hayes Endowment for Musical Excellence.
